Weather Forecast June 1: Monsoon advances over Comorin, Flood alert in Meghalaya, Tripura

Due to southwesterly winds over Southwest Bay of Bengal, Monsoon has advanced over Comorin area, Southwest and Southeast Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of Andaman Sea and parts of East-central Bay of Bengal.

In South Peninsula, a trough is extending from East India to South Interior Karnataka across Telangana and Rayalaseema. Therefore, we expect good rains over Rayalaseema and South Interior Karnataka. Whereas, scattered light to moderate rains will continue over Kerala, Interior Tamil Nadu and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. North Interior Karnataka and Telangana may also witness isolated light rains.

In East/Northeast India, a Trough is running from East Uttar Pradesh to Manipur across Jharkhand and West Bengal. Moisture feed is increasing from Bay of Bengal. Thus, we expect moderate to heavy rains over parts of Meghalaya and Tripura, which may lead to flood like situation in these areas. Rest of northeastern states, Sikkim, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and East Bihar will observe scattered rains. Jharkhand and Odisha may also witness isolated rains. Temperatures in East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar will drop by few degrees.

Dry winds from west/northwest will continue over Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Therefore, heat wave conditions will continue over many parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha. However, due to a trough running across Chhattisgarh, light rains will occur in parts of Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha.

Up in North India, a Western Disturbance is over North Pakistan and its induced cyclonic circulation is over Central Pakistan. Thus, isolated rains will occur in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Weather will remain dry and hot over the northwestern plains. Heat wave will continue in parts of Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh.
