Weather Forecast July 18: Monsoon rains to lash Kerala, alert issued, Rains to continue over Mangalore, Delhi

The Southwest Monsoon has now entirely covered Punjab and Haryana and some more parts of West Rajasthan. And, the Northern Limit of Monsoon now passes through Barmer, Jodhpur, Churu, Hanumangarh, and Sri Ganganagar.

Coming back to the countrywide weather, Monsoon has finally revived over Kerala. The active West Coast Trough is now running from South Konkan to Kerala. Thus, moderate to heavy rains with isolated very heavy rains are likely during next two days over most parts of Kerala and adjoining South Coastal Karnataka. Places like Idukki, Wayanad, Kozhikode and Mangalore will be affected by these torrential rains. There are chances of flooding as well in some areas. While moderate rains are likely over Goa and northern parts of Karnataka coast.

Light to moderate rains would too return over South Interior Karnataka including Bengaluru and extreme west of Tamil Nadu, mainly over the Nilgiris.

On the East Coast, a Cyclonic Circulation has formed over Northwest and adjoining Central Bay of Bengal which is close to Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha coast. Hence, scattered light to moderate rains will be seen over Telangana and North Andhra Pradesh, whereas, rest parts of Southern Peninsula might see light rains.

However, South Odisha is likely to witness scattered moderate rains with North Odisha to see light to moderate Monsoon rains.

Talking about East India, rains over flood ravaged Bihar have now become scanty and so in East Uttar Pradesh. Also, rains have reduced over Nepal. Thus, in due course of time, flooding condition is likely to improve. West Bengal, East Bihar and some parts of Jharkhand would see light rains only.

Rest, mainly light to moderate rains are expected over some parts of Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura. Meanwhile light rains will be seen over Arunachal Pradesh, rest Assam and Meghalaya.

Up in the North, a Western Disturbance is moving across North Pakistan and its induced Cyclonic Circulation is over Central Pakistan and adjoining Punjab. Another Cyclonic Circulation will be seen over Northwest Uttar Pradesh. A Trough is also running from Punjab across the Indo Gangetic Plains towards Northwest Bay of Bengal.

Hence, moderate rain is likely at few places of North Rajasthan, some parts of Haryana, Delhi, North Punjab, South Himachal Pradesh and South Uttarakhand can be a sight. Whereas, light rains will be seen over Northwest Uttar Pradesh, rest Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand and South Jammu and Kashmir.

However, West Rajasthan will witness mainly dry and warm weather.

Finally, due to active West coast Trough, scattered light with isolated moderate rains will be a sight over South Madhya Maharashtra and adjoining South Konkan and Goa. Whereas, light scattered rains will be seen over rest parts except South Gujarat coast and North Vidarbha. Mainly dry weather will prevail over rest Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

However, moderate rains might occur over South Chhattisgarh during the next 24 hours.
