Weather Forecast July 17: Heavy rains in parts of Punjab, Darjeeling, Assam, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala

At present, there are several Monsoon systems prevailing across the country, giving varied rainfall. Beginning with the Cyclonic Circulation that is marked over Central Pakistan and Punjab and a Trough is extending from this Circulation to Northeast India across Indo-Gangetic plains. Thus, we expect light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells over Punjab, parts of Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh. Also, one or two short spells are possible over Northeast Rajasthan and Delhi. While in hills, light to moderate rains area also likely over few parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Jammu and Kashmir might also see isolated rains.

With this east-west Trough, light to moderate rains are likely over parts of Bihar, and foothills of East Uttar Pradesh, while light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells will be seen over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland. Scattered rains are also possible over Jharkhand and Odisha. Whereas, rains will be light over Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata and rest northeast India.

Further, a Trough is extending from Bihar to Coastal Andhra Pradesh across Odisha. Scattered light to moderate rains is possible over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, parts of Telangana including Hyderabad, Rayalaseema and Interior Tamil Nadu. Few spells of rains can also be seen over Chhattisgarh.

With off-shore trough persisting along the West Coast, light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells will be seen over South Konkan and Goa, Coastal
Karnataka and Kerala. North Konkan and Goa will settle with scattered rains only.
