January 3, 2019 5:28 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Starting from North India, a fresh Western Disturbance is approaching the Western Himalayas. Due to this, we expect rains and snow over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Isolated rains may occur over foothills of Punjab as well. Dense fog is expected over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and North Rajasthan. However, minimum temperatures will rise over most parts of Northwest Plains.

Pollution levels over Delhi-NCR will remain in ‘severely poor’ category.

If we talk about Central India, an Anti-Cyclone is seen over Vidarbha and adjoining areas. This will mean a gradual rise in minimums over many parts of Central India including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Therefore, the ongoing Cold Wave is expected to abate the entire Central region.

Now coming onto East and Northeast India, we see a Cyclonic Circulation over Assam and Meghalaya. This will bring rain and snowfall over the upper reaches of Arunachal Pradesh. Isolated light rain is possible over parts of Assam. However, the rest of East and Northeast states will continue with dry weather for now.

Apart from this, we do not expect much change in temperatures over East India however, isolated pockets of Odisha may experience Cold Wave conditions.

Lastly coming onto South India, scattered rains are possible over Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Apart from this, weather of entire Southern Peninsula will remain dry. Soon, dry and humid winds from southeast direction will blow over Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. This will lead to the rise in minimum temperatures over these states. Cold Wave conditions will take a backseat for a while.
