Weather Forecast for Sep 22: Heavy rain in Mumbai; light in Chennai and Kolkata

September 21, 2016 6:32 PM |

The cyclonic circulation over Andhra Pradesh and adjoining areas has intensified into a low pressure area. Hence, widespread moderate rains are expected over Rayalaseema, Telangana including Hyderabad and adjoining North Karnataka.

Another cyclonic circulation which was over Saurashtra and adjoining coastal areas can now be seen over North Konkan. Moreover, a trough from this system will extend up to South Konkan. Due to this, rainfall activity will continue over these regions. Rain intensity is expected to steadily increase over South Konkan. However, it will reduce slightly over North Konkan but Mumbai will still receive heavy rains.

The combined effect of the two weather systems may result in scattered moderate rains over Maharashtra, South Chhattisgarh and also over some parts of Odisha. In fact, North Tamil Nadu including Chennai may also witness scattered light rains.

Parts of Madhya Pradesh and South Gujarat will also continue to receive light to moderate rains.

Moist easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal will continue to prevail over the eastern states and will give scattered light rainfall, with isolated moderate rains, over East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata.

In Northeast India, including Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, moderate to heavy showers will continue.

The Western Disturbance as an upper air trough can be seen moving across North Jammu and Kashmir. It will give isolated rains over the northern hills. However, Uttarakhand may receive moderate rains in few areas. Isolated light rains with thundery activities are also likely over few parts of northwest plains including Delhi.
