Weather Forecast for Oct 31: Rains in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal; Central and Northwest Plains to remain dry

October 30, 2018 6:48 PM |

After playing hide and seek with the country for last many days, weather conditions are finally getting favourable for Northeast Monsoon to make an onset over the region in a day or two.

A Cyclonic Circulation is persisting over Southwest Bay of Bengal near South Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka coast and a trough is extending from this till Kerala. We now expect rains to increase both in terms of spread as and intensity over Tamil Nadu.

Southern districts of Tamil Nadu might receive light to moderate rains at many places whereas, light scattered rains are likely over rest of Tamil Nadu including Chennai. Also South interior Karnataka, Kerala, Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra Pradesh might receive light rains. However, Telangana would remain dry.

Moving to East, a Low-Pressure area is over Northwest Bay of Bengal, which would continue to give scattered light to moderate rains over Gangetic West Bengal, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Light rains are also possible over Odisha, while isolated rains are likely over Jharkhand, Meghalaya and Nagaland.

Heading towards Central India, humid winds from this low pressure would be reaching East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, thus sky may become cloudy but weather would remain dry. Also, these areas might see an increase in minimums by 1-2 degree-Celsius. Meanwhile dry and warm winds from North would continue over Rajasthan, Gujarat and West Madhya Pradesh, keeping the weather dry and warm.

Up in North, a fresh Western Disturbance is over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir. With this, scattered light rains are likely over Jammu and Kashmir but Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand would continue to be dry. The system would also not affect weather over northwestern plains including Delhi, which would remain dry and warm. However, nights would be cool and pleasant.

Talking about pollution, Delhi-NCR continues to be under the tight grip of pollution. We would like to reiterate that no significant clearance is on cards and that the air quality would deteriorate further due to the presence of light winds and low temperature.
