The deep depression turned into a cyclonic storm known as Kyant today afternoon. Today morning at about 5.30 am, it was seen about 540 km away from Port Blair and 470 km from Yangon. At present, it was moving in a west-northwest direction. After some time the storm will start moving west-southwestwards, towards west-central Bay of Bengal and could reach the Andhra coast by October 28.
Rainfall will commence along the East Coast including Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha and Andhra coast by October 27. Strong damaging winds will also start blowing over coastal areas of Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh. Gradually, the intensity of rainfall will increase.
In rest of South Peninsula, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep will receive scattered rains as we can still see the cyclonic circulation hovering over Southwest Arabian sea.
Up in Northeast India, the cyclonic circulation over Mizoram will give scattered rains over northeastern states.
Northwesterly winds will continue to sweep across most parts of northwest, central and east India. But weather will remain mostly dry with bright sunny afternoon hours.
