May 3, 2018 4:15 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Pre- Monsoon rain and thundershowers continue to maintain its grip over the country, barring few parts. To start with North India, the Western Disturbance is persisting over Jammu and Kashmir and its induced cyclonic circulation is presently seen over Haryana and adjoining areas of Rajasthan.

Moreover, a trough is running from this system up to Northeast India across the Indo-Gangetic plains. Thus, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Meanwhile in the plains, Punjab would record light to moderate rain, while scattered showers are likely over Haryana, Delhi-NCR, West Uttar Pradesh and North Rajasthan. Northwestern plains are also likely to see dust storm. In wake of this, maximum temperatures will drop in the next 24 to 48 hours.

Another trough can be seen running from Bihar to North Tamil Nadu across the central parts of the country. Accordingly, good rains are likely over Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha, while isolated rains may occur over East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Meanwhile in Northeast India, scattered rain and thundershowers will continue over the entire area.

Due to lack of moisture, Central India would not see much of the activity, but isolated thunderstorm, thundershowers or dust storm cannot be ruled out over North Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha. Chhattisgarh may also see few good spells of rain. However, we do not expect much change in the temperature profile and heatwave would continue to grip these areas along with Rajasthan.

Down south, the trough would be attracting humid winds, thus resulting in light to moderate rains over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, South Interior Karnataka, Kerala and Interior Tamil Nadu. Isolated activities may also occur over Rayalaseema and Telangana.

Bengaluru and Hyderabad is also likely to see rain and thundershowers, while Chennai may see thunderstorm.
