May 2, 2018 5:48 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Pre- Monsoon rain and thundershowers continue to maintain its grip over the country, barring few parts. Beginning with North India, a western disturbance is seen prevailing over Jammu and Kashmir and its induced cyclonic circulation is seen over Central Pakistan and adjoining areas of Punjab and Haryana.

A trough is also running from this system up to Northeast India across the Indo-Gangetic plains. In wake of this, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Meanwhile in plains, Punjab would also see light to moderate rain while scattered showers are likely over Haryana, Delhi-NCR, West Uttar Pradesh and North Rajasthan. Northwestern plains are also likely to see dust storm. In wake of this, maximum temperatures are likely to drop in the next 24 to 48 hours.

Another trough is seen running from this trough from Bihar to North Tamil Nadu across the central parts of the country. Accordingly, good rains are likely over East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha. Scattered rain will continue over entire Northeast India.

Meanwhile, due to lack of moisture, Central India would not see much of the activity, but isolated thunderstorm, thundershowers or dust storm cannot be ruled out over North Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha. However, we do not expect much changes in the temperature profile and heatwave would continue to grip these areas along with Rajasthan.

Down south, the trough would be attracting humid winds resulting in light to moderate rains over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, South Interior Karnataka, Kerala and Interior Tamil Nadu. Isolated activities may also occur over Rayalaseema and Telangana. Bengaluru is also likely to see rain and thundershowers, while Hyderabad would see dry and hot weather.
