Weather Forecast for May 21: Cyclone Roanu to give heavy rain in Kolkata, Odisha, duststorm in Delhi

The cyclonic storm Roanu in west-central Bay of Bengal continues move in northeast direction along and off the Odisha coast. It can be seen lying about 150 km east of Bhubaneswar. The storm is heading towards Bangladesh and is likely to make landfall between night of May 21 and early morning of May 22 and weakening thereafter. Till then, heavy to extremely heavy showers along with squally winds will lash coastal Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata on Saturday. Trails of system will continue giving rains over coastal Andhra Pradesh but with decreasing intensity. Meanwhile, it will also give heavy to very heavy showers over northeastern states of Lower Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on Saturday. Not only this, peripherals of the system will also bring light rain over Interior Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand and few pockets of Chhattisgarh.

Moving down south, rains will reduce significantly over Peninsular India on Saturday. However, remnants of the system will keep the sky cloudy, with possibility of isolated light rain over Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Weather will go hot and humid until a fresh Monsoon system starts affecting the region.

Meanwhile, heatwave has tightened its grip over Northwest and Central India. Particularly, Rajasthan where temperatures are setting above or around 50 degrees. Heatwave has not even spared hilly states as temperatures over several places continue to settle above 30°C. However, a cyclonic circulation is prevailing over Punjab and adjoining Rajasthan. A trough is running from this system up to Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh across Haryana, Punjab, Delhi and parts of Uttar Pradesh.
