The deep depression lying very close to the Andhra Pradesh coast could intensify into a cyclonic storm within next 24 hours. But it will skirt away from the East Coast, without making landfall. The deep depression is still quite close to Chennai and will bring inclement weather conditions in the city and other coastal parts of Tamil Nadu for another day or so.

Gradually, rainfall and damaging winds will subside over North coastal Tamil Nadu and increase over Andhra Pradesh. We can say that focus will now shift to places like Ongole, Nellore, Kakinada and other parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh. In fact, this system will find its way all along the East Coast, right up to Odisha and further Gangetic West Bengal.

The probable cyclonic storm is influencing weather pattern in Northeast India as well. Moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal is enhancing rainfall activity over the region. Successive spells of heavy rain could lead flood alert in some areas. Places like Silchar and Cherrapunji recorded more than 200 m of rainfall on Tuesday. Rain and thundershowers will continue over the region for now.

The other major happening over the country at present is heatwave conditions over North and Northwest India. Maximum has crossed the 45-degree mark in Delhi. Gujarat and Rajasthan will witness scorching weather with day temperatures reaching higher-forties in places like Jaisalmer, Phalodi and Barmer. Clear skies, hot and dry winds coming from north and northwest direction will sustain such high temperatures.
