Weather Forecast for March 16: Pre-Monsoon rains enter South India

The Western Disturbance lying over Pakistan is approaching Jammu and Kashmir region. Tomorrow a cloud cover will prevail over entire North India. Rain and snowfall will commence on March 17 and continue till the 18th. Good showers likely in Jammu and Kashmir, followed by some rain in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Foothills of Punjab and Haryana could also receive light rain on the 17th and 18th. As have been reiterated by Skymet, this spell of rain will be milder than the previous one.

In Northeast, upper parts of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh will continue to receive light rainfall.

Peninsular India is all set to witness the first spell of pre-Monsoon rains.

There is a cyclonic circulation over Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh region. We can see a trough extending from West Bengal across Odisha, centre of the circulation, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and going right up to Tamil Nadu. The anti-cyclone over Coastal Odisha and Andhra Pradesh off the Bay of Bengal is also feeding moisture.

Two opposing winds from both the systems have led to formation of confluence zone over Peninsular India. Scattered rains likely in this region. Tomorrow Nagpur, Hyderabad and Bangalore stand a chance of witnessing a rainy day.

Day temperatures have been settling well above normal making Peninsular India the hottest pocket of the country. Several places in the interiors are recording maximums around 40°C.
