July 16, 2016 5:26 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The western arm of the trough is passing through plains of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and centre of the system over Uttar Pradesh. While the eastern arm of the trough is running closer to foothills of Himalayas through this system. The western arm will continue to shift closer to the foothills gradually. In wake of this, fairly widespread heavy rains are expected over West Uttar Pradesh, adjoining Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and North Rajasthan on Sunday.

Meanwhile, foothills of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya could see some vigorous rain activity with isolated extremely heavy rains.

With Monsoon trough shifting upwards, rains will now reduce significantly over Central India. However light rains with few moderate spells cannot be ruled out.

Down South, Tamil Nadu including Chennai could also see light showers on account of prevailing trough along Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh coast. Meanwhile, feeble off-shore continues to run along the West Coast. With this, we can expect some moderate showers over Kerala, while Coastal Karnataka and Konkan & Goa will see light to moderate rains only. Interiors of Peninsular India will also continue with subdued Monsoon rains.
