Weather Forecast for Jan 3: Fog in UP, Bihar, Mercury to dip in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi

Let’s first take a look at major events of the day; Mount Abu witnessed sub-zero minimum temperatures for the first time in the season, while most places of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have been reeling under cold day conditions.

Coming back to North and Northwest India weather, the North Indian Hills will continue to see dry weather conditions.

Meanwhile, moderate fog at many places and dense fog at few pockets are expected over the northwestern plains during the next 24 hours. Thereafter, the intensity of fog is anticipated to ease out.

Moreover, minimum temperatures will drop by 1 to 2 degrees over the mentioned region. Cold wave conditions will persist in pockets of North Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana.

Coming to Central India, the weather would continue to remain dry with clear sky conditions over the entire central region. Night temperatures are likely to register marginal drop by 1 to 2 degrees.

Moving to East and Northeast India, a feeble cyclonic circulation is seen over East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. In the wake of this weather system, moderate fog is likely over both mentioned regions.

A cyclonic circulation is over Bangladesh and neighborhood. A trough is also extending from this system up to Northeast India. Thus, light rain with moderate spells may occur over parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Moderate foggy mornings would also persist in parts of Northeast India.

Live status of Lightning and thunder

Lastly in South India, the cyclonic circulation over Southeast Bay of Bengal is likely to become more marked and move towards Central Bay. A trough in the easterlies is extending in Southwest Bay of Bengal off Tamil Nadu Coast.

With this, Andaman and Nicobar Islands would record fairly widespread rains, while isolated rains will occur over the extreme southern parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Rest of South Peninsula would witness dry weather conditions.
