Weather Forecast for December 10: Rain in Chennai reduces but continues in South Tamil Nadu

December 9, 2015 7:39 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Chennai will observe dry sunny days very soon. Rainfall will reduce significantly over the flood ravaged city by December 12. But we cannot rule out one or two odd possibilities of light rainfall. The easterly wave will affect Peninsular India but no strong weather system is likely to come up over the region.

As of now, the trough extending from Sri Lanka to Southwest Bay of Bengal still exists in the lower levels. Southern parts of the Tamil Coast will receive light to moderate rainfall. Kerala and adjoining Karnataka will receive mainly light rainfall. This trough extending from Southeast Arabian Sea will keep the weather cloudy to partly cloudy over Goa and the coastal areas. Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and North Karnataka will witness dry weather conditions.

The trough extending from the Himalayan ranges to Northeast India could bring light rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram.

The Western Disturbance lying over North Pakistan and adjoining areas is likely to move in an East-Northeast direction. There is also an induced cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan. The trough from this system is extending up to South Pakistan. Accordingly, we can expect some light to moderate rain and snow in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir. Thundershowers could be a possibility in the plain areas of the Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and adjoining Punjab. Thundery activity likely in Haryana and Delhi as well.

Dense to very dense fog engulfed most parts of Indio-Gangetic Plains on Wednesday morning. The hilly states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand also reported dense fog. North Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar also reported nil visibility, disrupting road and railway traffic. Foggy weather will prevail in these areas on Thursday morning. Weather will clear up gradually as the day progresses.
