The depression in southeast Bay of Bengal is gaining more strength and is likely to intensify into deep depression any time soon during the next 24 hours.
Further, cloud configuration and atmospheric conditions are indicating that the system is very likely to concentrate into a cyclonic storm in subsequent 24 to 48 hours.
With this, heavy to extremely heavy rains will continue over Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the next 24 hours. Hundreds of tourists are still stranded on Havelock Islands as rough sea conditions are hampering the rescue operations. We are afraid that inclement weather conditions will continue for another 24 hours.
The system is also infusing moisture over parts of Tamil Nadu and we can expect scattered rains over the coastal parts.
At present, weather models are indicating that the possible cyclone will be heading towards Andhra Pradesh. However, we need to wait and watch for its further advancement.
