Weather Forecast for Dec 6: Ockhi to weaken further, head to Gujarat; light rain in Mumbai to continue

Cyclone Ockhi will now weaken into a deep depression. The system will cross South Gujarat coast near Surat during the night of December 5. Southern districts of Gujarat may receive moderate showers with isolated heavy spells. Intensity of rains will reduce over Maharashtra including Mumbai. However, light rains may continue over Mumbai. Ockhi is also expected to give scattered rains over West Madhya Pradesh and parts of East Rajasthan.

The well marked low pressure area over west-central Bay of Bengal will gradually intensify into a depression in the next 24 hours and move in west northwest direction. The system may give scattered rains over Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The east coast including Chennai, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh will remain spared from the system for at least 24 hours. However, the possibility of isolated rains over some areas of Tamil Nadu cannot be ruled out.

Coming to North India, dry winds from northwest will now blow over Northwest Plains but as the clouding is persisting therefore minimums will not fall. However, maximums will remain below normal by 2-3 degrees over most parts of Northwest India including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh.

Talking about Delhi, pollution levels in Delhi will remain on the high and Sri Lankans during the last day of the India vs Sri Lanka test may continue to suffer.

Live status of Lightning and thunder

Coming to East and Northeast India, dry weather will persist over entire region and no major change is expected in maximum and minimum temperatures. Shallow fog and mist may occur in East India.
