Weather Forecast for Dec 2: Severe Cyclone Ockhi to give very heavy rains in Lakshadweep

Cyclonic Storm Ockhi has further intensified into a severe cyclone and is heading towards Lakshadweep. As per weathermen, the system will continue to move in west-northwest direction.

With this, heavy to extremely heavy rains are likely over Lakshadweep Islands, while rains will now reduce gradually over Kerala, but few moderate rains with isolated heavy spells will continue.

Tamil Nadu will also witness significant decrease in rain activity. Light rains are expected over Chennai and Bengaluru.

The low pressure area is over Andaman Sea. This system will move in west-northwest direction and may intensify into well marked low. Thus, good spells are likely over southern Islands of Andaman and Nicobar.

Coming to Central region, parts of Gujarat may have partly cloudy to cloudy sky, while sky will remain clear over Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Mainly dry weather will persist over the region.

Talking about the weather in East and Northeast, a cyclonic circulation is seen over Bangladesh and adjoining Tripura. However, due to lack of moisture in the atmosphere, dry weather will continue over both eastern as well as northeastern states. There are possibilities of shallow fog over Tripura, Meghalaya, North Bihar and West Bengal.

Up in North, dry winds will commence over the northwestern plains. With this, both maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to drop marginally over Punjab, Haryana, North Rajasthan and Delhi.

Shallow to moderate fog will be seen over parts of Punjab, Haryana and Northwest Uttar Pradesh.
