Weather Forecast for Dec 13: Depression in Bay, mercury to dip across Northwest India

December 12, 2018 6:11 PM | Skymet Weather Team

To begin with North India, the Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir and its induced cyclonic circulation is over the northwestern plains are now moving away after giving season’s first snowfall over many places, particularly Shimla. However, remnants of the system may give some rain and snow over the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh during next 24 hours.

Rest all other parts of Northwest India will remain almost dry. However, isolated rain over parts of West Uttar Pradesh cannot be ruled out. With cold winds making a comeback, drop in night temperatures is expected across the plains including Delhi NCR.

Moving to Central India, due to the feeble cyclonic circulation over Chhattisgarh and the trough running from this system towards southern peninsula, we expect light rain in parts of Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. Rest all states of Central India will remain dry.

In South India, this trough would not be able to give any weather activity. Meanwhile, the well-marked low-pressure area in Bay has now induced a depression that lies over South-central Bay of Bengal. It is likely to move northwestwards and strengthen into a deep-depression during the next 24 hours. Chances are there that it might become a cyclone in 72 hours, but it would be feeble one only.

Lastly in east/northeast India, a weak cyclonic circulation lies over Bangladesh and adjoining Assam. In wake of this system, we expect isolated rain over few places of Assam and its nearby region. Rest all states of east and northeast India will remain dry with isolated rain over Jharkhand.

Talking about fog, we expect fog to now start making regular appearances over many parts of the country. As of now, we expect shallow to moderate fog over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Some places mighty also witness thick fog as well.
