Weather Forecast for Dec 13: Cyclone Vardah makes landfall, heavy rains in Chennai

The cyclonic storm Vardah has made landfall near Chennai resulting in heavy to very heavy rains over coastal districts of Tamil Nadu and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh. The next few hours are crucial for the region.

Now, the system is expected to weaken gradually into a depression, but it will continue to give good rains over many interior districts of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Moderate to strong winds will also continue to blow over the region.

Scattered rains are also likely over South Interior Karnataka and Kerala.

The weather over central India will continue to remain dry. Minimum temperatures over Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and parts of Madhya Pradesh will rise by 1 -2 degrees Celsius.

Dry northwesterly winds has commenced over the northern plains, hence the intensity of fog will reduce over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh.

Meanwhile, East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar will continue to witness moderate to dense fog. However, gradual decrease in fog intensity can be expected.
