Weather Forecast for Dec 1: Cyclone Ockhi to become a severe cyclone, heavy rain in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Lakshadweep

Beginning with South India, season’s first Cyclone Ockhi has formed in Comorin region. The cyclone is moving in a west- northwest direction and is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by morning of December 1.

With this, many districts of South and Central Kerala will witness heavy to very heavy rains. As the cyclone is moving towards Lakshadweep, the Islands are bracing for torrential showers which may cause some damage as well.

Moderate to heavy rains are also possible over many parts of Tamil Nadu. However, north coastal Tamil Nadu including Chennai will see gradual decrease in rains.

Another low-pressure area which is over South Andaman Sea will give good rains over Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The system is expected to become a well-marked low-pressure area.

Central India, dry weather will persist over the region. Day temperatures will remain in lower 30s, while nights will remain cool.

East and Northeast, a cyclonic circulation is seen over Bangladesh and adjoining Tripura. However, as the moisture incursion is not taking place, weather will remain dry over entire region. Day temperatures will remain in higher 20s.

Live status of Lightning and thunder

North, dry winds from northwest have once again commenced over Northwest Plains. Thus, we expect marginal drop in day and night temperatures. Shallow to moderate fog is expected over parts of Haryana and Punjab. Delhi Pollution may witness a marginal decrease due to the prevailing north westerlies.
