Weather Forecast for Aug 17: Good Monsoon rains in MP, UP, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal

August 16, 2016 4:23 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Monsoon will remain subdued over Western and Southern parts of the country. We now expect intensity of rains to remain on the lower side.

Nevertheless, the country as a whole has received 1% more rains than normal so far. Successive Monsoon systems developing in the Bay of Bengal are keeping Monsoon conditions active over East and Central India at present.

The low pressure area over North Bay of Bengal has intensified into a well-marked low. It will enhance rainfall activities over Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand during next 24 to 48 hours. Kolkata could receive good rains tomorrow. Light rains cannot be ruled out over few parts of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh as well.

The low pressure area over southeast Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas will persist. The axis of the Monsoon trough will continue to pass through Punjab, centre of the low pressure area over southeast Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal and further towards the low pressure area over North Bay of Bengal. Thus multiple weather systems will bring moderate to heavy showers over Central Uttar Pradesh and northern and eastern parts of Madhya Pradesh. Light to moderate Monsoon rains are also likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Northeast India. Delhi could receive light rains only.

In southern parts of the country, light to moderate rains are likely along the West Coast in view of the feeble off-shore trough.
