Heatwave has finally begun to abate from most parts of the country, all thanks to the approaching spell of pre-Monsoon rains. Day temperatures have dropped 1-2 degrees over several parts and mercury is now hovering around 42°C over most parts.
However, isolated parts of Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Marathwada region of Maharashtra will continue to be under the ambit of heatwave. Further during the next 24 hours, mercury is likely to drop further across the country, bringing in much needed relief.
In North India, the affecting Western Disturbance is marked over Jammu and Kashmir, while its induced cyclonic circulation is over Central Pakistan and adjoining areas of Punjab and Northwest Rajasthan. With this, we can expect fairly widespread rain and thundershowers over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh during the next 24 hours. Uttarakhand and Punjab will also see good rains over many parts.
Meanwhile, scattered rains can be recorded over Haryana, Delhi-NCR, North Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh. Isolated dust storm is also likely over few places.
Moving eastwards, a trough is running from East Uttar Pradesh to Tripura across Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. This would bring scattered rains over parts of East Bihar, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
Another trough is extending from Chhattisgarh to North Kerala across Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, Telangana and Interior Karnataka. However, due to lack of any moisture incursion, weather will mainly remain hot and dry over most parts of Central India and Peninsular India. But isolated rains cannot be ruled out over parts of Kerala.
