April 13, 2016 4:15 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Skymet has come out with its Monsoon forecast for 2016. Above normal Monsoon rains will bring cheers among farmers after two straight years of drought. But at the moment, all we can think about is some pre-Monsoon showers to bring quick relief in the hot and dry regions.

A fresh Western Disturbance will start affecting weather in North India from the 15th of April. Partly cloudy skies and mainly dry weather likely in the hills for now. The plains will witness sunny afternoons with dry northwesterly winds blowing over the region. Tomorrow we can expect some rainfall in extreme East Jammu and Kashmir.

Northeast India will continue to receive light to moderate showers for now. The cyclonic circulation has now moved to Assam and adjoining Meghalaya region. The trough extending from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal to North Bay across Bangladesh will bring isolated rains over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. Chances of hailstorm and squally winds cannot be ruled out. The intensity and spread will increase towards the weekend.

In Peninsular India, we can see a cyclonic circulation over Telangana and a trough is extending from this system up to North Kerala coast. Accordingly we can expect isolated rain and thundershowers over coastal parts of Kerala and Karnataka.

No relief likely from heatwave conditions over Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha. In fact, severe heatwave conditions are prevailing over the Diamond Harbour region in West Bengal and North Coastal Odisha. Telangana and adjoining Chhattisgarh region will also witness heatwave conditions tomorrow.

Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh will remain will have dry and sunny weather. Day temperatures will rise by 2 to 3 degree Celsius during next 48 hours.
