Weather Forecast Aug 18: Heavy rains in Himachal, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand

Yesterday’s Cyclonic Circulation over Bangladesh and adjoining areas has now moved inland and is presently lying over Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand as a Low-Pressure Area. The Monsoon Trough is active and is moving across East India.Rainfall activities will once again enhance over Jharkhand and many parts of Bihar during the next 24 hours. Bokaro, Daltonganj, Ranchi, Gumla in Jharkhand will see intense rains while Gaya, Nawada, Aurangabad and Champaran are likely to record moderate to heavy rains.

Moderate rains with few heavy spells accompanied with lightning will be seen at many places. While activity will reduce over Gangetic West Bengal and light to moderate spells will occur at many places of this state. Whereas, Odisha will receive scattered light to moderate rain activities. Whereas, in Northeast India, Sikkim and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal may receive light to moderate rains at some places.

Up in the North, the Western Disturbance is now moving across East Jammu and Kashmir. While the Low-Pressure Area over Haryana has merged with the Monsoon Trough. Therefore, rains will reduce over Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi while increase over Northwest Uttar Pradesh. The eastern parts of Punjab, East Haryana, parts of Delhi and most parts of West Uttar Pradesh will see light to moderate rains while Bareilly, Roorkee, Saharanpur and Moradabad might see heavy spells.

The rain activities in comparison to yesterday will now reduce over Jammu Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Moderate spells are likely to continue over Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. These rains might trigger flash floods and landslides. We would like to extend caution for places like Rudraprayag, Shimla, Dharamshala, and Chamba.

While in Central parts of the country, rainfall activity will increase marginally over Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh due to the formation of a Low-Pressure Area and its upper air system. Ambikapur, Pendra, Umaria, Satna, Jabalpur stands a chance to see moderate spells. Kutch will witness dry weather with light rains at few places of Gujarat, West Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra. Mumbai and Coastal parts of Maharashtra to receive light rains.

Down South, a Cyclonic Circulation over Chennai and adjoining areas has now weakened, and a Trough is extending along the East coast. The West coast’s off-shore Trough has become insignificant. Therefore, light to moderate rains will be seen along Coastal Karnataka, North Kerala and Goa. While moderate rains are possible over Andhra Pradesh coast and North Tamil Nadu coast including isolated parts of Telangana. Bengaluru might see scattered light rains with light to moderate rains in Chennai. Whereas Hyderabad will see light rains.
