Skymet released its Monsoon 2018 forecast on April 4, 2018 and followed it up with the regional rainfall forecast on April 17.
The onset date of Monsoon over the Indian sub-continent is a much awaited piece of news. As per Skymet, Southwest Monsoon this year is likely to make onset on the mainland on May 28, 2018 with an error margin of +/-2 days.

Prior to this, Monsoon will reach the Bay Islands and North Andaman Sea on May 20 and cover Sri Lanka and Central Bay of Bengal by May 24.
A low pressure area in the Arabian Sea is likely to push Monsoon along the West Coast and the interiors of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Pre Monsoon showers also are likely to pick up pace over South Peninsula prior to the onset of Monsoon which will be the deciding factor for the onset of Monsoon. This will be the earliest onset since the year 2010.
