After remaining on lower side, the horror of severe pollution is back in Delhi NCR. Air quality deteriorated further and plunged to new levels on Friday when Air Quality Index spiked to 361, which is the highest of this season.
Delhi’s air quality that at present is in the “very poor” category is worsening every single day. And if it continues to rise at such staggering rates, very soon national capital’s air quality would enter the “severe” zone.
While persistent stubble burning in Haryana and Punjab and local polluting factors were already wreaking havoc, now the weather conditions have also starting contributing in pollution. This NASA image behind shows the extent of stubble burning over a period of last ten days.
Winds have gone light along with change in direction, temperatures have reduced and moisture in atmosphere has increased on account of back to back Western Disturbance. All these factors would not let the pollutants dissipate easily.
