Northeast Monsoon 2017: Latest Chennai Rains Update

The Cyclonic circulation has been persisting over Coastal Tamil Nadu that had given torrential rains over Chennai and nearby areas. Minambakkam observatory in the state capital has recorded 169 mm of rain, while Nungambakkam reported 116 mm. other coastal areas have too recorded heavy showers like Cuddalore recorded 140 mm, Karaikal recored 142 mm and Parangipettai recorded the highest rainfall of 263 mm.

Moderate to heavy rains to continue over Chennai on Nov 1st and 2nd. These showers will reduce a little on Nov 3rd as the system will drift in east direction but one or two spells of heavy rain can not be ruled out. Meanwhile south coastal parts of Tamil Nadu will continue to record heavy rains throughout.

A fresh weather system is expected to develop over east central Bay of Bengal which will initially move towards Tamil Nadu coast and 6 or 7th of November it may give moderate to heavy rain over Chennai and nearby areas. Gradually it will move in northeasterly direction away from Chennai and rains will reduce over Chennai was well as over coastal areas of Tamil Nadu.
