March is not known for too many spells of rain. However, this time record-breaking rain and snowfall was witnessed across large parts of the country and one more rainy spell is in the offing. Multiple weather systems will bring widespread rain and the only parts to be left out would be Northeast India, Odisha, West Bengal, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Pre-monsoon activity has begun in South India and an extended rainy spell, beginning on March 14 is likely in the region. The Kerala coast and interiors will receive more rain than the East Coast.    Earlier, the rainy spell was initiated by the passage of Western Disturbance in North India but this time a cyclonic circulation over south Rajasthan and Gujarat area will begin the rainy spell. Parts of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh have already started receiving some rain. In Maharashtra, Wardha received 13.3 mm of rain. Guna and Indore in Madhya Pradesh received 4 and 3.2 mm of rain, respectively.

The rain belt will extend and cover Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR and west Uttar Pradesh by the 13th.

On the 14th of March, rain will recede from Gujarat. But in North India, the western disturbance will join the cyclonic circulation and drench entire North India including the Hills. Left over crops in Punjab and Haryana could be destroyed by hailstorm. Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh could also receive some rain on the 14th and 15th. Rain will start receding from 16th and end by the 17th of March.
