The entire country is reeling under extremely hot weather. The day temperatures are soaring way above 40°C in many places of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, north Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Delhi and Amritsar have already recorded highest maximums of the season. Several places in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are also quickly catching up with these two cities.
Hot and dry north westerly winds have been raising the mercury in North and Central India. Northeast India will remain the coolest region of the country, with maximums around 30 degrees.
Here we can see a fresh Western Disturbance and a cyclonic circulation, approaching. These two weather systems will start affecting Jammu and Kashmir by 9th of May. We could expect some rain in the plains of North India, including west Uttar Pradesh and north Madhya Pradesh, on the 10th and 11th of May. By Saturday, winds will change and some thunderstorm activity seems likely in Delhi-NCR, Punjab and Haryana. But even this spell of rain will not provide much relief as the day temperatures will drop only marginally.
The wind discontinuity in the southern peninsular keeps oscillating and has now shifted to interiors of Tamil Nadu and adjoining Andhra Pradesh. Tomorrow we can expect only scattered rain in these areas.
