Several places are recording the season’s highest temperatures. Maximums are soaring above the 40 degree mark in most parts of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Heat will continue unabated in the entire region. But, Northeast India will remain the coolest region of the country, with maximums around 30 degrees.
In absence of any weather system, North and Central are being swept by hot and dry northwesterly winds. These winds are coming from the dry and arid lands of Pakistan and Rajasthan.
We can expect some relief in North India by the 9th of May, when a fresh Western Disturbance will start affecting Jammu and Kashmir. The feeble cyclonic circulation over East India will gradually become more marked. This will enhance rainfall activity over East and Northeast India by the weekend.
Here we can see that the wind discontinuity has extended and already given rain off the Western Ghats, in cities like Sholapur and Pune. India will continue across Madhya Maharashtra, interiors of Karnataka, and finally up to Kerala and interiors of Tamil Nadu.
