Intense heat has swept most parts of the country, with mercury hovering above 40-degree mark at several places, with no respite likely in near future.
At present Gujarat, adjoining Rajasthan and Maharashtra are the hottest pocket, with maximum temperatures settling above 42 degrees.
In the absence of any weather activity, hot and dry northwester lies continue to blow over most parts of the country and are responsible for rising temperatures.
A feeble cyclonic circulation is prevailing over south Rajasthan but it is not expected to give any weather as moisture levels are very low.
Meanwhile, another cyclonic circulation continues to prevail over Chhattisgarh and adjoining Odisha and a trough from this system is extending up to South Tamil Nadu across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Odisha, parts of Telangana and coastal Andhra Pradesh could receive isolated to scattered rain along with thundershowers tomorrow. Squally winds to the tune of 70 to 90 kmph can’t be ruled out.
South Interior Karnataka, Kerala and isolated places in Tamil Nadu could also receive some light rain, in view of the wind discontinuity.
Northeast India will also continue to witness light rain on account of prevailing cyclonic circulation over the region.
