April is generally associated with rising temperatures and pre-monsoon activity across the country. Though Peninsular India has already started receiving frequent spells of per-monsoon showers, North India still seems to be under the grip of extended winter activity.
In last 24 hours, two pockets across the country have witnessed widespread rain. Flood scare has finally reduced in Jammu and Kashmir. But, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is still shut due to landslides triggered by heavy rains in the past few days.
In last 24 hours, the glaciers received snowfall, while the middle and lowers reaches recorded good rainfall.
Even the plains of Punajb, Haryana, Delhi and adjoining areas of Rajasthan and west Uttar Pradesh received good showers. Karnal in Haryana recorded 40 mm of rain, while Delhi received 15 mm of rain.
Rain has subsided in Delhi and the plains but we cannot rule out the possibility of light activity up in the hills.
Sub Himalayan West Bengal and the Northeastern states have also witnessed widespread rain on Friday. Didbrugarh in Assam recorded 7 mm of rain and Golaghat 34 mm. In this entire region, rain will continue for another 48 hours and reduce thereafter.
With temperatures close to 40 degrees in the interiors, we can expect some pre-monsoon showers on Sunday. The east coast will remain mostly dry. The coastal station of Kerala could receive some light rain.
