Monsoon Forecast for Sep 8, 2017: Monsoon rain in Chennai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad

During the last 24 hours, Southwest Monsoon remained active over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Northeast Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, parts of North Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, North Tamil Nadu, South Interior Karnataka and Lakshadweep. Meanwhile, Monsoon remained normal over Northeast India, Sub Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, South Madhya Maharashtra, Telangana, parts of Vidarbha, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala.

Major rain contribution came from Meerut that recorded 62 mm of rainfall, followed by Arogyavaram at 55 mm and Kailashahar 54 mm.

As on September 6, the cumulative countrywide rainfall is deficient by 5%. As far as the regional distribution is concerned, Northwest, Central and South India are still rain deficient by 4%, 8% and 4%, respectively.

At present, the axis of Monsoon trough is passing through Sri Ganganagar, Hissar, Delhi, Hardoi, Gorakhpur and Muzaffarpur towards East Assam.

During the next 24 hours, Monsoon is likely to remain active to vigorous over Kerala, interior Tamil Nadu and South Interior Karnataka. Active Monsoon conditions are expected over North Interior Karnataka, Madhya Maharashtra, parts of Vidarbha, Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile Normal Monsoon conditions will prevail over Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, parts of Odisha, Northeast India, Coastal Karnataka and Konkan and Goa.
Remaining parts of the country will witness subdued Monsoon conditions.
