During the last 24 hours, Southwest Monsoon remained active over northeastern states, Tamil Nadu and Konkan and Goa.
Whereas, Normal Monsoon conditions were observed all along the Western Himalayas, South Rajasthan, Gujarat, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, coastal parts of Karnataka as well as Kerala.
Major rain contribution came from Cherrapunji that recorded 142 mm of rainfall, followed by Punalur at 82 mm and Bapatla 79 mm.
As on September 2, the cumulative countrywide rainfall is deficient by 3%. As far as the regional distribution is concerned, Northwest, Central and South India are rain deficient by 2%, 5% and 7%, respectively.
Presently, the western end of axis of Monsoon trough is running close to foothills of Himalayas, while the eastern end is passing through Purnia, Balurghat across Bangladesh and further southeastward towards Northeast Bay of Bengal.

During the next 24 hours, Monsoon is likely to remain active over many parts of northeastern states and Tamil Nadu.
Live status of Lightning and thunder
In the meantime, Normal Monsoon conditions are expected over Kerala and central parts of the country like Southeast Madhya Pradesh, northern districts of Vidarbha and Central Chhattisgarh.
