Monsoon Forecast for Sep 20, 2018: Monsoon rains in Odisha, West Bengal, Karnataka

During the past 24 hours, Monsoon remained active over Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Rayalseema. All thanks to the potential depression brewing in Bay of Bengal.

Major rainfall share came from Port Blair that recorded 57 mm, followed by Silchar 47 mm and Rentachintala 45 mm.

As on September 18, the countrywide cumulative rainfall deficiency has increased to 10%. Division wise, East & Northeast India remains highest rain deficient pocket at -24%, followed by Northwest India at 6% while Central India is rain deficient by 6 percent. South Peninsula is the only rain surplus pocket with mere 1%.

During the next 24 hours, active Monsoon conditions over Gangetic West Bengal, Coastal Odisha and Coastal Karnataka would give light to moderate with isolated heavy showers over these areas.

Meantime, Normal Monsoon conditions will prevail over Interior Karnataka, remaining parts of Odisha and West Bengal along with South Chhattisgarh, parts of East Bihar and Jharkhand causing light to moderate showers over these parts.
