Monsoon Forecast for Sep 20, 2017: Heavy rains in Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh; Good in Coastal Maharashtra, UP

During the last 24 hours, Monsoon remained vigorous over Konkan & Goa, coastal Karnataka, parts of Kerala, Odisha, and parts of South Chhattisgarh.

Active Monsoon conditions were seen over many parts of Madhya Pradesh, South Gujarat, Gangetic West Bengal, parts of Meghalaya, and Manipur and at a few places over northwest Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Major rain contribution came from Harnai that recorded 374 mm of rainfall, followed by Chandbali at 120 mm and Mahabaleshwar at 116 mm.

As on September 18, the cumulative countrywide rainfall continues to be deficient by 6%. Coming to the regional distribution, East and Northeast, Northwest, and Central India are rain deficient by 3%, 10% and 8%, while rains continue to remain normal for South India.

At present, the axis of Monsoon trough is passing through Pathankot, Chandigarh, Hardoi, Jamshedpur, Balasore towards the east-central Bay of Bengal.

During the next 24 hours, Monsoon will remain vigorous over southwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Vidarbha region.

Active Monsoon conditions will be seen over Konkan & Goa, North Coastal Karnataka, Vidarbha, Marathwada, parts of Telangana, remaining parts of Madhya Pradesh. Chhattisgarh, parts of Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, and parts of East and Central Uttar Pradesh.

Monsoon will remain normal over Coastal Odisha, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and parts of Uttarakhand.

Scattered light rains may also occur over interior Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, and parts of West and Central Uttar Pradesh.
