Monsoon Forecast for Sep 13, 2018: Heavy rain likely in Sikkim, parts of Assam, Meghalaya and West Bengal

The axis of monsoon trough continues to run across foothills of Himalayas through Jammu, Una, Dehradun, Pilibhit, Bahraich, Goalpara and then eastwards to Nagaland.

With this, Monsoon remained vigorous over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh during the last 24 hours. At the same time, active monsoon conditions were witnessed over Uttarakhand and North Interior Karnataka.

In the last 24 hours, major rainfall contribution came from Dhubri in Assam that recorded 156 mm of rain, followed by Dehradun 109 mm, Jalpaiguri 94 mm and Kadapa 88 mm.

As on September 12, the country wide rainfall deficiency increased further to 8 percent. South India is the only sub-division with surplus rains of 2%. Meanwhile, northwest, central and east & northeast India are still rain deficient by 4%, 3% and 24%, respectively.

During the next 24 hours, Monsoon is expected to remain vigorous over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam and Meghalaya, which would give moderate to heavy rains. However, Arunachal Pradesh will witness active Monsoon conditions.

Meanwhile, normal Monsoon conditions would give light to moderate rains over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Manipur, Gangetic West Bengal, parts of Jharkhand, North Odisha, North Chhattisgarh, East Uttar Prdaesh and East Madhya Pradesh.
