Monsoon Forecast for Oct 1, 2017: Rain in West Bengal, Assam; Monsoon 2017 to withdraw further

Southwest Monsoon remained vigorous over Sikkim, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, lower Assam, coastal Odisha and North Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Active Monsoon conditions were observed over South Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Telangana.

Normal Monsoon conditions were witnessed over the rest eastern parts of the country, upper Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, rest of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Rayalaseema.

Major rain contribution came from Goalpara that recorded 290 mm of rains, followed by Cooch Behar 139 mm and Tuni 89 mm.

As on August 29, the cumulative countrywide rainfall is deficient by 5%. As far as the regional distribution is concerned, Northwest India and Central India are rain deficient by 10% and 6% Whereas South India stands normal.

At present, the line of withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon is currently seen passing through Naliya, Jodhpur, Hisar and Amritsar.

During the next 24 hours, the conditions are favorable for further withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon from some more parts of northeast Arabian Sea, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab and some parts of Jammu & Kashmir. Monsoon will remain vigorous over Sub Himalayan West Bengal, lower Assam, Sikkim, and East Bihar. Active Monsoon conditions are likely over Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, North Tamil Nadu, some parts of Andhra Pradesh, North Telangana, and Northeast India.

Normal Monsoon conditions are expected over the remaining parts of eastern and southern states.
