Monsoon Forecast for June 8, 2018: Heavy Monsoon rain in Goa, Coastal Karnataka

During the last 24 hours, vigorous active to Monsoon conditions were seen over Coastal Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Meanwhile, Monsoon remained normal over North Interior Karnataka, Karnataka, Kerala, Coastal Tamil Nadu and Northeastern states.

Major contribution came from Machilipatnam which saw 106 mm, followed by Vellore at 90 mm, North Lakhimpur 78 mm, Karwar 74 mm, Car Nicobar 72 mm and Pet Jorhat 62 mm of rain.

During the last 24 hours, India witnessed 15 percent deficit rains. With this, the seasonal countrywide rainfall so far stands at -10 percent. Talking about the regions, South India saw maximum rains and was rain surplus by 23 percent, followed by Central India at 12 per cent. However, East-Northeast and Northwest India are rain deficient by 44 percent and 8 percent, respectively.

Moving further, The Northern Limit of Monsoon is now passing through Mormugao, Gadag, Kurnool, Narsapur, Machilipatnam, Agartala, Lumding and North Lakhimpur.

Southwest Monsoon is expected to cover remaining parts of Goa, Karnataka, Rayalaseema. Some parts of South Maharashtra, Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh in the next 24 hours.

During the next 24 hours, active to vigorous Monsoon conditions are expected over Goa and Coastal Karnataka. Monsoon will remain normal over Kerala, North Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the northeastern states.

Meanwhile, subdued Monsoon conditions will prevail over Rayalaseema, South Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
