Monsoon Forecast for June 21, 2018: Heavy Monsoon rain in Goa, Karnataka, Kerala

Country continues to witness weak Monsoon conditions and thus, remained stagnant in last 24 hours. The Northern Limit of Monsoon passed through Thane (including Mumbai), Ahmednagar, Buldhana, Amravati, Gondia, Titlagarh, Cuttack, Midnapore, Goalpara up to Baghdogra. In fact, Monsoon does not seem to revive in the next 3-4 days as well.

During the last 24 hours, Monsoon remained vigorous over South Konkan & Goa, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Andaman & Nicobar Islands, while active Monsoon conditions were witnessed over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, parts of Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh.

Major rainfall contribution came from Vengurla that recorded heavy rains to the tune of 175 mm, followed by Long Island 155 mm, Mangaluru 121 mm and Durg 113 mm.

As per past 24 hours, the countrywide rainfall was deficient by 56%. Similarly, seasonal rain was also deficit by 4%. Only South India recorded surplus rains by 37%. Otherwise; North, Central and East & Northeast India were rain deficient by 9, 5 and 25%, respectively.

Let’s talk about Monsoon during the next 24 hours; it will remain vigorous over South Konkan and Goa, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala, that would see moderate to heavy rains with few extremely heavy spells during the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, Lakshadweep, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Madhya Maharashtra would observe active Monsoon conditions that could give moderate rains. Monsoon will remain normal over Vidarbha, Interior Karnataka, Telangana, South Chhattisgarh, Sub Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Northeastern states.
