Monsoon Forecast for Jun 9, 2017: Monsoon touches Maharashtra, Heavy rains in Mumbai, Hyderabad

Progressing at fast normal pace, western arm of Monsoon 2017 has advanced further, covering entire Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Coastal Karnataka and Goa, and some more parts of Interior Karnataka and Konkan region of Maharashtra. Meanwhile, eastern arm remains stagnant.

The northern limit of Monsoon continues to pass through Vengurla, Tumkur, Nellore, Agartala, William Nagar, and Kokrajhar.

Country saw excess Monsoon rains during the past 24 hours. The major contribution came from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Konkan & Goa, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

Pernem and Panjim in Goa recorded 116 mm and 89 mm of rains, respectively, while Hyderabad recorded 87 mm. With this, seasonal rainfall for the country was surplus by 18% as on June 7.

Weather conditions are highly favourable for Monsoon to advance further during the next 2-3 days and strike parts of Maharashtra including Mumbai. In Northeast, it may reach up to Sub-Himalayan West Bengal.

Live status of Lightning and thunder

During the next 24 hours, West Coast will continue with good rains with intense showers over Coastal Karnataka and Konkan & Goa. Mumbai, Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam are likely to record moderate to heavy rains.

Meanwhile, Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu will receive subdued Monsoon rains.
