Monsoon Forecast for July 4, 2018: Heavy rain in Punjab, Himachal, Uttarakhand, Assam, Sikkim

The axis of Monsoon trough continues to pass along the foothills through Ludhiana, Najibabad, Bahraich, Gorakhpur, Sheohar, Supaul, Golpara, Dibrugarh and then to Arunachal Pradesh.

During the last 24 hours, Monsoon remained vigorous over Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka. Meanwhile, active monsoon conditions were observed over North Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, foothills of Uttar Pradesh, South Gujarat, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

However, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Northeastern states, Kerala and Interior Tamil Nadu witnessed normal monsoon conditions.

Major rainfall contribution came from Cherrapunji that recorded heavy rain to the tune of 148 mm, followed by Mumbai 131 and Karwar 121 mm.

As of July 2, the countrywide cumulative rainfall is deficient by 7%. Division-wise, South and Northwest India are surplus by 11% and 13%, respectively. While East & Northeast and Central India remained deficit by 25% and 8%, respectively.

During the next 24 hours; Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Assam will witness active to vigorous Monsoon conditions with heavy to very rains.

Monsoon will remain active over Konkan & Goa, Coastal Karnataka, Meghalaya, Nagaland, remaining parts of West Bengal, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha. All these areas would also see moderate to heavy rains.

Meanwhile, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, West Madhya Pradesh, Southeast Rajasthan would witness normal Monsoon conditions.
