Monsoon Forecast for July 31, 2018: Heavy rain in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh

The axis of monsoon trough at mean sea level continues to pass through Amritsar, Ambala, Bareilly, Sultanpur, Chapra, Dumka, Asansol, Kolkata and towards East central Bay of Bengal.

During the last 24 hours, Monsoon remained active over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Meanwhile, normal Monsoon conditions were witnessed in Odisha, West Bengal, Northeast India, Andaman and Nicobar Islands along with Kerala.

Major rainfall contribution came from Contai in West Bengal that recorded 108 mm of rain, followed by Cherrapunji 80 mm and Varanasi 67 mm.

As on July 29, the countrywide cumulative rainfall is deficient by 5%. Division-wise, Central and South India are rainfall surplus by 8% and 4%. Meanwhile, Northwest and East & Northeast India are rain deficient by 1% and 29%, respectively.

During the next 24 hours, West Uttar Pradesh is likely to witness vigorous Monsoon conditions. Meanwhile, rest of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar would observe active Monsoon conditions that would give light to moderate rains with few heavy spells.

Meanwhile, normal Monsoon conditions will prevail over West Bengal, northeastern states, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Kerala and Jharkhand due to which light to moderate rains are likely.
