Monsoon Forecast for July 3, 2018: Monsoon rain in Konkan, Coastal Karnataka, Assam, Meghalaya

The axis of Monsoon trough passes through Amritsar, Pilibhit, Gonda, Muzaffarpur, Purnea, Golpara, Dibrugarh and then eastwards upto Arunachal Pradesh. In fact, we expect the trough to persist for the next 2-3 days.

During the last 24 hours, Monsoon remained active over Vidarbha, Konkan & Goa, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, foothills of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, parts of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh; while normal Monsoon conditions were witnessed over Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Chhattisgarh.

Major rainfall contribution came from Cherrapunji that recorded heavy rains to the tune of 232 mm, followed by Pasighat 151 mm and Salem 134 mm.

As of July 1, the countrywide cumulative rainfall is deficient by 7%. Division-wise, South and Northwest India are surplus by 13% and 12%, respectively. While east & Northeast and Central India remained deficit by 26% and 6%, respectively.

During the next 24 hours; foothills of Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and eastern parts of Uttarakhand would observe active to vigorous Monsoon conditions that could give moderate to heavy rains, with one or two very heavy spells.

Monsoon will remain active over Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka that would see moderate to heavy showers.

Meanwhile, Kerala, parts of Tamil Nadu, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Jammu & Kashmir and North Punjab would witness normal Monsoon conditions that could give light to moderate rains.
