Monsoon Forecast for July 18, 2018: Rain in Gujarat, Vidarbha, South Madhya Pradesh

Heavy to very heavy rains were recorded over several parts of Gujarat during the last 24 hours. Parts of Madhya Pradesh recorded heavy rainfall activity.

The axis of monsoon trough is currently passing through Jaisalmer, Kota, Sagar, Ambikapur, Balasore and towards East central Bay of Bengal.

During the last 24 hours, Monsoon remained vigorous over Gujarat, Konkan & Goa, South Madhya Prdaesh and Odisha.

Meanwhile, active Monsoon conditions were witnessed by Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, Marathwada, Vidarbha, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Prdaesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal and Arunachal Pradesh.

Major rainfall contribution came from Mahabaleshwar that recorded extremely heavy rain to the tune of 270 mm of rain, followed by at Diu 263 mm and Valsad at 223 mm of rain.

As on July 16, the countrywide cumulative rainfall is deficient by 4%. Division-wise, Central and South India are rainfall surplus by 10% and 18%. Meanwhile, Northwest and East & Northeast India are rain deficient by 9% and 30%, respectively.

During the next 24 hours, Vidarbha, South and West Madhya Prdaesh would observe vigorous Monsoon conditions that would give heavy to very heavy rains.

Meanwhile, active Monsoon conditions will prevail over Gujarat, Konkan & Goa, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Haryana, Assam and Meghalaya with light to moderate rains along with few heavy spells.

Normal Monsoon rains are likely over Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Odisha, Telangana, Northeast India, West Bengal and Jharkhand.

On the other hand, Monsoon will remain subdued over the rest of the country.
