Monsoon Forecast for July 17, 2018: Heavy rain in Gujarat, Odisha, Vidarbha

The axis of monsoon trough is currently passing through Jaisalmer, Kota, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Pendra, Sambalpur, center of well-marked low-pressure area and towards East central Bay of Bengal.
During the last 24 hours, Monsoon remained vigorous over Kerala, South Gujarat, North Konkan & Goa, Odisha and parts of Vidarbha.

Meanwhile, active Monsoon conditions were witnessed by Gujarat region, South Konkan & Goa, Coastal Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Prdaesh, East Madhya Prdaesh and Himachal Prdaesh.

Major rainfall contribution came from Mahabaleshwar and Bhawanipatna that recorded extremely heavy rain to the tune of 299 mm of rain, followed by Matheran at 262 mm and Kochi 231 mm of rain.

As on July 15, the countrywide cumulative rainfall is deficient by 5%. Division-wise, Central and South India are rainfall surplus by 7% and 17%. Meanwhile, Northwest and East & Northeast India are rain deficient by 8% and 30%, respectively.

During the next 24 hours, Gujarat, South Odisha, parts of Chhattisgarh, North Telangana and parts of Vidarbha would observe vigorous Monsoon conditions that would give heavy to very heavy rains. While, active Monsoon conditions will prevail over Konkan & Goa including Mumbai, South Gujarat, Costal Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Prdaesh, Southeast Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Northwest Uttar Pradesh with light to moderate rains along with few heavy spells.

Normal Monsoon rains are likely over Madhya Maharashtra, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, northeastern states, remaining Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand.
Rest of the country will see subdued Monsoon conditions.
