Monsoon Forecast for Aug 6, 2017: Rain in Delhi, Kolkata, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh

Southwest Monsoon remained vigorous over Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand and along the coast of Kerala and Karnataka. Active Monsoon conditions were seen over East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh and northeastern states.

Normal Monsoon conditions were seen at few places over Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, North Karnataka and West Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, subdued Monsoon conditions were observed over Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and South Tamil Nadu.

Major rain contribution came from Haridwar that recorded 149 mm of rainfall, followed by Jamshedpur and Nahan at 104 mm of rain.

As on August 4, the cumulative countrywide rainfall continues to stands deficient by 1%. As far as the regional distribution is concerned, Northwest India is rain surplus by 14% Central India by 2%.Whereas, South, East and Northeast India are still rain deficient by 18% and 7%, respectively.

At present, the axis of Monsoon trough continues to pass through the foothills of Himalayas.

During the next 24 hours, Monsoon will remain active to vigorous over Chhattisgarh, adjoining parts of Madhya Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh and along the coast of Karnataka and Kerala.

Active Monsoon conditions are expected over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal including Kolkata, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and northeastern states. Whereas, subdued Monsoon conditions are expected over Gujarat, Rajasthan, North Maharashtra though rest of the country will continue to witness light rains.
