Monsoon Forecast for Aug 29, 2017: Heavy rain in Mumbai, West Coast, Gujarat

Southwest Monsoon remained vigorous along the West Coast including South Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala.

Monsoon remained active over parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Central Uttar Pradesh, Odisha as well as Gangetic West Bengal.

Normal Monsoon conditions were witnessed over Southeast Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, North Tamil Nadu,
Major rain contribution came from Lucknow that recorded 162 mm of rainfall, followed by Bankura at 113 mm and Gwalior at 108 mm.

As on August 27, the cumulative countrywide rainfall continued to be deficient by 5%. Talking about the regional distribution, Northwest, Central and South India are rain deficient by 4%, 8% and 9%, respectively.
Rains over East and Northeast India continued to remain normal.

At present, the axis of Monsoon trough is passing through Jaisalmer, Kota, Sagar, Pendra, South Odisha, centre of low pressure and hence towards Southwest Bay of Bengal.

During the next 24 hours, Monsoon will remain vigorous over North Konkan and Goa as well as southern parts of Gujarat.

Meanwhile, Active Monsoon conditions are likely over rest of West Coast, most areas of Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh, South Chhattisgarh, parts of Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, and some areas of Odisha.

Monsoon will remain normal over Northwest Uttar Pradesh, parts of Uttarakhand, Nagaland, Manipur.

Also, subdued Monsoon conditions are expected over most parts of Northwest India, Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand.
