Monsoon Forecast for Aug 28, 2017: Heavy rain in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Coastal Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh

Southwest Monsoon remained vigorous at many places along the West Coast and a few places over Meghalaya. Active Monsoon conditions were observed at most parts of the country. Southwest Monsoon remained normal at a few places over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, western parts of Rajasthan and Haryana. 

Major rain contribution came from Cherrapunji that recorded 143 mm of rainfall, followed by Panambur 107 mm and Cooch Behar 102 mm.

As on August 26, the cumulative countrywide rainfall remains deficient by 5%. As far as the regional distribution is concerned, Northwest India, Central and South India are rain deficient by 3%, 8% and 10%, respectively. East and Northeast India continue to remain normal.

At present, the axis of Monsoon trough is passing through Sri Ganganagar, Karnal, Lucknow, Daltonganj towards Northwest Bay of Bengal and then southeastwards to East central Bay of Bengal

During the next 24 hours, Monsoon will remain vigorous in many places along the West Coast including Mumbai, Gujarat, a few places over South Chhattisgarh, eastern parts of Telangana and adjoining areas of Andhra Pradesh. 

Live status of Lightning and thunder

Active Monsoon conditions will be witnessed over central parts of the country, at a few places over northeastern states, Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan and Gujarat, remaining parts of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, rest of Telangana, Vidarbha and northern parts of Marathwada.

Normal Monsoon conditions are expected over remaining parts of the country except for Kutch, West Rajasthan, West Haryana and South Tamil Nadu.
